Born in Blackpool, England, David is the second of three children. Up until the age of Eight years old he lived in the
apartment above the family toy store. According to many David is a vegetarian but confirmation has not yet been made.
The first known appearance of David on our screens is in the Kellogg's Bran Flakes advert. In order for him to earn his
equity he went from clubs to bars playing the musical talents of Simon and Garfunkel. He appeared in many theatre performances,
and also won an award for
Best Actor in the Rheim Film festival for the BBC production 'Journey to Knock'.
His first proper acting role came when he stared in
'Valentine Park' as Max. David's first full length feature film was
'Life is Sweet' directed by Mike Leigh, who later wrote the script for
'Naked' in which he showcased David's acting abilities. David was nominated for Best Actor in 7 different Award ceremonies including
The New York Film Critics Circle. In 1995 David wrote and directed a short film called
'Hello, Hello, Hello' for which he received a BAFTA nomination, then later in 2003 he directed and starred in the film
'Cheeky' where he played Harry Sankey. In 1997 David played the German Peter Aufschnaiter in
'Seven Years in Tibet' and received a banning from ever entering China due to reasons not fully explained. David's most recent successful film
is in
'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' in which he played Professor Remus John Lupin. First considered for Professor Quirenius Quirrel in 'Harry Potter and
the Philosopher's Stone', instead they gave that part to Ian Hart and David was given the larger part of Remus Lupin.
In April 1992 David married Sara Sugarman, another English actress, but later in 1993 they divorced. David
is currently residing with the British Actress Anna Friel and they are now expecting a baby though have
no plans to marry as of yet. David has written a novel, 'The Man's Legend' but confirmation of publication is unknown. He
is also gifted poet, musician and painter.
